I am of the opinion, that today, life has gotten worse than it was a 1000 years ago. I also believe humans now have less self-agency than they did a 1000 years ago. I believe the biggest cause of this, is the advancement of technology and a lack of privacy due to technology-driven society. Now, you could argue that the world today is much more "convenient" and safe than prior to the industrial revolution. For these reasons, you might also claim that right now, is the best time in human history to be alive. In some ways, yes. Modern medicine is far better than its ancient counterparts, the world has an illusion of being "peaceful" now and wars don't affect you who read this in the "First-World" or stable nations. Yet, today we debate on the value of sacred human life and dehumanize babies to the mere biological term of "fetus". Today we argue about the benefits of capitalism or socialism, while ignoring the vast destruction caused to our sacred planet. The usage of social media, as well, has detrimental effects to our populace by inducing the brain with a constant stream of dopamine and manipulating large groups of people to the wills of a few.
This argument is mainly stated from the perspective of an environmentalist. More damage has been done to our planet in the last 200 years than all the millions of years prior. Ever since the industrial revolution in Britain during the 1700s, the amount of greenhouse gases in our air has increased a 100 times the amount than pre-industrial history.
